Le Toasteur

Design
Restaurant
Expansion

A summer-inspired dining room.

An expansion of Le Toasteur restaurant in Montreal (Villeray), this commercial design project transforms an apartment into a warm, summer-inspired dining room. Designed to enhance the customer experience and optimize operations, the space recreates the spirit of a year-round patio thanks to a harmonious, functional design rooted in the habits of brunch lovers. This project illustrates a strategic approach to restaurant design, combining aesthetics, efficiency, and comfort.

Transforming a space isn't just about design; it's about experience, efficiency, and profitability. With Le Toasteur, every decision was made to accommodate more customers, streamline operations, and extend the venue's signature ambiance year-round. The result: a space that works for both the team and the customers, and concretely supports the restaurant's growth.

Le Toasteur

Mandate

Renowned in the Villeray neighbourhood for several years, Le Toasteur – a breakfast restaurant cherished by loyal customers – needed to expand its space to better meet demand. By utilizing the apartment located upstairs, we proposed a natural and authentic transformation, resulting in an obvious and fluid evolution.

Approach

Our mandate was to design a dining room equipped with a bar counter and an additional kitchen, all inspired by the habits of customers who love summer patios. Once the warm season ended, our vision was to recreate this atmosphere indoors: a warm, open, and inviting space. In harmony with an aesthetic already established in the dining room and on the patio, the design of the new space was developed through an organic process and co-creation sessions.

ResultS

From a residential apartment to a functional restaurant, the addition of a second kitchen upstairs not only allows for more customers but also alleviates pressure on the ground-floor kitchen's operations, thereby optimizing service and comfort. The Rümker team is proud to have designed a unique and harmonious extension that will prolong Le Toasteur's authentic experience for neighbourhood regulars and refined brunch enthusiasts.

“Summer at Le Toasteur is pure joy: sunshine, a full patio, and a festive atmosphere! But when winter arrives, our capacity is cut in half, and everything slows down.” - Marc-André, co-owner of Le Toasteur
